"THIS IS NOT A VALID IGM" on a Bill of Entry: what it means, and the IGM number to quote

Your CSN is accepted, the shipping line's manifest is on ICEGATE — and the Bill of Entry still says "THIS IS NOT A VALID IGM". Here is why, and what to read.

In this film

  • What the error says: at that customs station there is no Import General Manifest line matching what the Bill of Entry quotes — a statement about the IGM, not about your CSN
  • Two enquiries over two databases: the older one reads the IGM, the new one reads the SCMTR filings. In the new one and not the old one means: accepted, and no IGM line yet
  • Look the master bill up and read what the Bill of Entry quotes: the rotation (the IGM number) and the IGM line and sub-line — on the house line
  • A transhipment (TC) house bill never gets an IGM line: nothing is missing, it moves on under transhipment
  • Not the CSN number, not the CIN, not the ICEGATE id — each of those in the IGM field gives the same refusal
