Your CSN and the shipping line's SAM are filed on the same master BL. Customs matches them — but only when the SAM mentions your CSN, and not every detail. Which differences get a filing rejected, which are just a typing mistake, and which are fine?

In this film

  • When customs matches the two: only when the line's SAM mentions your CSN number (or its MCIN / PCIN)
  • Fix — these got filings rejected: MBL date (error 164), total packages (232), number of containers (233), container load status FCL / LCL (399)
  • Check — these should also match: container type or size, weight, ports. No rejection seen yet; mostly a typing mistake. They never stop your filing
  • OK to differ — customs allows these: first port of entry (different in 68 of 222 accepted filings we checked) and the line's own bond number
  • How we know: rejections we have seen, and 430 pairs of CSN and SAM that customs accepted — on which SCMTR shows no Fix
